Miss de Vendel was born in Schenectady New York in 1817 and died in Mobile on May 14, 1898. Her father was Colonel Emile de Vendel, an aide to General Napoleon of France. She first married James West and second married Paul Emile Chaudron. He was born in 1819 in Alabama and died May 30, 1859. They are buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Mrs. Chaudron was a noted author and wrote several widely used children's textbooks as well as translating several European works into English. -Research by Pam Whitesides
